Home improvement shows

I like “Holmes on Homes.” Mike Holmes is a nice guy. He rescues homeowners from shoddy work and dishonest contractors. And he is one of the few home improvement gurus that work on a home for people to live in, not to raise property value or sell or flip.

A growing number of home improvement shows focus on selling. The “homeowners” are landlords or individuals who bought the house in hopes of making a bunch of improvements and selling it for twice the amount they paid. There is no sense of investment, in terms of living in the home. It’s all about making the money, savvy real estate amateurs, flipping, and closing the deal.

I predict that one day a home featured in “Holmes on Homes” will have been featured in one of the shows I’m taking a jab at here. The flippers or landlords will have screwed someone out of a quality home in the name of the almighty dollar and Mike will have to clean up the mess.
